New Hyundai i20's High-Performance Model in the Works

    After receiving a grand response for the new-generation i20 - the Elite i20 - in India, Hyundai is now planning to roll out the car in European markets. Those who didn't know, the car made its European debut at the recently concluded 2014 Paris Motor Show.

    At its unveiling, Hyundai Europe's head, Jurgen Grimm also hinted that a performance-oriented version of the new-gen i20 is also being developed. The new i20 will be the first hatchback to wear the 'N' badge, given to the cars developed by Hyundai's performance division - Namyang research and development hub. The Hyundai i20 N Edition is likely to take inspiration from the company's WRC unit.

    Powering the N edition of the i20 will be a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine that is capable of churning out an impressive 247bhp. This is the same engine that also powers the Hyundai Veloster turbo. Besides a bigger engine, the Hyundai i20 N will also get upgraded suspension, brakes, chassis and wheels. Moreover, the car will also get a new body kit to make it even more aerodynamic in shape.

    The Hyundai i20 N will take on the Volkswagen Polo R WRC in Europe.
