The new-gen Mahindra Scorpio is all set to be launched in India and the company is already on a marketing spree, releasing teasers of the new SUV ahead of its debut. The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio is going to be a huge step-up over its predecessor in all aspects. It will be bigger in dimensions with a larger footprint, will build up on its urban and muscular looks and will feel way more premium on the inside, boasting a completely new layout and laden with modern creature comforts. Here's how different we expect the new Mahindra Scorpio to be from the outgoing model.

Exterior
The new-gen Mahindra Scorpio is expected to take quite a leap when it comes to looks and will be a huge departure from the current model. It looks bulbous and will have a bigger footprint than the outgoing model. It still retains the boxy silhouette while its edges have been smoothened out and you see get too see a slight hint of the Mahindra XUV700's design cues as well. For instance, the rising rear haunch and the large window frame are design elements we have seen in the new XUV700 as well, while the new Scorpio will also bear the new Mahindra logo. Then, the new Scorpio will also feature modern-age features like LED twin-pod projector headlights, LED fog lights, bigger 10-spoke alloy wheels and generous amount of chrome detailing. The signature Mahindra front grille with vertical chrome inserts will also be present.
The outgoing Mahindra Scorpio has a boxier and more upright stance and is also narrower and shorter in dimensions. That said, the upcoming model is likely to be slightly shorter than the current model. In terms of features, the new Mahindra Scorpio gets projector LED headlights with DRLs in higher variants while it gets halogen fog lamps. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheel while the new Scorpio is expected to get a size bigger 18-inch alloy wheels.
Interior
The cabin of the new Mahindra Scorpio will also undergo a major upgrade. While it is likely to be offered in both six-seater (with second-row captain seats) and seven-seater seating configurations like the current model, the seats appear to wider and offer better bolstering. Even in terms of layout, unlike the Mahindra XUV700, Mahindra seems to have given the Scorpio a more conventional approach. A bigger touchscreen infotainment system takes centre stage and the instrument cluster sports more conventional dials with a coloured central MID.
The outgoing Mahindra Scorpio appears to be quite simple on the inside. It does get a touchscreen infotainment system, but it's smaller and is less on features. The seats too are not as wide and it has a very upright seating position while armrests are attached to the seats both in the front and in the second-row.
Features
The Mahindra XUV700 left us astonished with all the bells and whistles it has on offer, and the Mahindra Scorpio is expected to follow suit. It is likely to be loaded to the brim with modern age creature comforts and expect it to be laden with all latest features like wireless charging, a bigger touchscreen supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone auto climate control, auto-dimming inner rear-view mirror, power-adjustable driver's seats, 360-degree camera view, a large panoramic sunroof and the Adrenox Connected car tech among others. Features like tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and door-ajar warning for each door will also be on offer. However, we are not sure if Mahindra is also considering ventilated seats for the new Scorpio as the flagship XUV700 doesn't get one. Moreover, we also don't know if Mahindra is considering offering the advance driver assist system (ADAS) on the new Scorpio.
The outgoing Mahindra Scorpio feels quite rudimentary in terms of creature comforts. While it does offer basic features like all-door power windows, manual air conditioning, auto foldable and adjustable wing mirrors, manual six-way adjustment for driver's seat, and a touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity. It lacks on some common features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and auto climate control which are quite common even in smaller hatchbacks nowadays.
Engine
The new Mahindra Scorpio is expected to get the share the engine and gearbox combination with the Mahindra XUV700. So Mahindra's new 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol motor and the 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, diesel engine are expected to be offered on the new Mahindra Scorpio. Both engines are expected to be offered with a six-speed manual and automatic gearbox options, with the diesel also set to get four-wheel drive.
The current Mahindra Scorpio comes with only the 2.2-litre, four-cylinder mHawk diesel engine with the six-speed manual and six-speed automatic gearbox.
Safety
The new Mahindra Scorpio is also expected to get eight airbags as seen on the Mahindra XUV700, while features like the electronic stability program (ESP), Hill-Start Assist and Hill Descent Control among others are expected to be standard.
