New Ford Mustang To Launch In India Next Year; Mustang Mach-E Coming In 2023

At the time Ford India announced that it will stop making cars in India, the carmaker made it very clear that a restructuring is underway, and it won't close all shops in India. The American auto giant will sell completely built units (CBUs) or imported premium models in our market like the Ford Mustang, Ranger and the Ford Mach-E electric vehicles. In fact, Ford is gearing up to launch the Mustang in India in the second half of 2022 and the Mach-E will follow a year later, in 2023.

The Mustang Mach-E will go on sale in India in 2023.

Now we still don't have any word on the powertrains that will be on offer in the Mustang, but we expect the 5.0-litre, V8 petrol motor and the 3.7-litre V6 engine to be on offer. The 2.7-litre, four-cylinder powertrain might not be under consideration. The engine churns out around 475 bhp and 570 Nm of peak torque and is mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Ford is already facing supply issues for its latest EV - the Ford Mustang Mach-E due to the ongoing semiconductor crisis. Ford estimates orders for the Mach-E which were scheduled to be delivered by early October in the global markets will be delayed further and so the model will only make its way to India in 2023.

Ford India has shut production in its manufacturing plants.

According to latest news reports, Anurag Mehrotra, President & MD- Ford India has stepped down as well and Balasundaram Radhakrishnan, Director Manufacturing at Ford will take interim charge. Ford's ceasing production at its Indian plants came as a big blow to not only its employees but also its customers. It has left Ford's existing customers worried about aftersales and resale value of their cars. While for models like the Ford Endeavour which is sold overseas, spare parts could be still arranged by the way of import and supply too will be maintained since those engines and mechanicals will be available at its Sanand plant for models like the Ranger which shares mechanicals, but for models like the Figo Aspire and Ecosport, it'll be a huge challenge. The carmaker has said that it will maintain its parts depots in Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Sanand and Kolkata. Sales of current products will cease once existing dealer inventories are sold out but Ford's dealer network will continue to offer parts and service support and warranty package.
