Near Production 2018 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Spotted Testing
Highlights
- The 2018 Mercedes-Benz A-Class will be larger in dimensions
- The new A-Class will feature S-Class inspired tablet styling console
- The new generation A-Class is set to make its debut next year
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class is an extremely popular model for the carmaker and also brings a host of younger buyers to the aspirational brand. The A-Class is due for a replacement next year, which is when the next generation model arrives. While have seen a number of spy shots of the 2018 A-Class being tested, the latest images from Europe show the car in minimal camouflage and looks to be near production. We got a glimpse of the new A-Class with the Mercedes-Benz EQA Electric car concept at Frankfurt this year, and the upcoming model certainly looks to have evolved.

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz A-Class will be larger in dimensions and the change is visible on the test mule as well. The model is based on the next generation MFA 2 platform that will see the use of aluminium in the construction for a lighter kerb weight and higher structural rigidity. The new A-Class is also expected to get a larger wheelbase than the current version liberating more legroom and cargo space for the passengers.
Visually, the styling has evolved on the fourth generation Mercedes-Benz A-Class with a swooping bonnet making quite a mark. The LED headlights look sharper than before and the diamond grille has also grown wider on the new model. The ORVMs are also further away from the A-pillar. The front and rear bumpers have been revised, while the LED taillights are sleeker and wider, and carry the same dual exhaust tips. While the diamond grille looks premium, it will be interesting to see the Panamericana grille make it to the AMG versions of the A-Class, keeping up with the Affalterbach family.
Inside, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz A-Class is expected to borrow cues from the current W222 S-Class. The model is expected to sport a digital instrument console and a tablet-style centre console for all the main controls, while a host of tech wizardry could make its way from the flagship S-Class to the W176 replacement. Engine options will include the usual petrol and diesel versions, but Mercedes is also working on an electric hatchback called the EQA that will go on sale in the future.
The new generation Mercedes-Benz A-Class will be unveiled sometime next year along with a host of models lined up for an update and yes, the luxury hatchback will be making its way to India as well.
