Morning Car Wash in Chandigarh Will Attract Fines

The shortage of water in Maharashtra is no news; the state's severe struggle has raised a furor across the country. However, there is one Indian city that is proactively adopting measures to prevent the squandering of potable water during the summer.

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has agreed upon the imposition of a fine on folks found washing their cars in the morning. Applicable from 5:30AM to 8:30AM, the penalty of Rs. 2,000 will also be levied on people found watering plants during the stipulated hours.

To wash cars between the aforementioned hours, residents have been directed to use bucket water instead of pipes.

B K Dhawan, Executive Engineer, Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, said, "Washing cars, watering plants from 5:30 am till 8:30 am will not be allowed in the city as part of measures to check misuse of water."

18 teams comprising three members each will carry out the special drive from April 15 till June 30 throughout the city to check water wastage and fine violators. Furthermore, officials have also warned that the water supply of repeat offenders will be disconnected.
