Mitsubishi Motors is all set to re-introduce the Montero SUV (Pajero in certain markets) in India after discontinuing the model a couple of years ago. The Japanese car maker has listed the Montero on its Indian and has also opened bookings for the same. Dealers too have confirmed that they are accepting bookings for the SUV at a starting amount of Rs. 10 lakh, while the asking price is expected to be a whopping Rs. 70.43 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), with the Montero arriving as a CBU.

The Mitsubishi Montero is one of the more capable SUVs out there and will be and comes with the known off-roading DNA that we have experienced on the Pajero over the years. The Montero arriving in India is the facelifted version of the model sold back in 2012 and has been updated with revised headlamps, wider grille and tweaked bonnet as well as bumper. The overall silhouette continues to remain the same, while the rear now sports a tailgate mounted spare wheel.

Currently, in third generation, the Mitsubishi Montero is a mammoth in size measuring 4900mm in length, 1875mm in width and a height of 1870mm with a wheelbase of 2780mm. Power comes from a 3.2-litre 16-valve, DI-D, four-cylinder, diesel engine tuned to produce 189bhp of power at 3800rpm and 441Nm of torque available at 2000rpm. The oil burner is paired to a 5-speed automatic transmission with All-Wheel Drive system.

In terms of features, the Montero is loaded with steering mountd controls, cruise control,  daytime running lights, leather upholstery, power tilt and sliding sunroof, automatic climate control with fully automatic AC vents, touchscreen infotainment system, MID unit and much more.

Despite its capabilities, the Mitsubishi Montero wasn't a brisk seller the last time in India, largely due to its hefty price tag of Rs. 40 lakh (ex-showroom). With the company planning to retail the model at a price tag of Rs. 70 lakh, the Montero gets catapulted in the range of the BMW X5, Audi Q7 and Mercedes GLS. It now needs to be seen if the Montero will find takers, considering the German brands offer more features, power and higher brand value.
