Michelin has decided to make an entry in the Indian scooter tyre market. The French tyre manufacturer had been catering to only the premium motorcycle segment in India so far. By launching its first scooter tyre series - City Pro - Michelin has gone ahead with the idea to test its waters in a very potential segment. This range will cater to both motorcycles and scooters up to 150cc.

This series has been specially designed for intensive urban use keeping in mind the road conditions usually found. Michelin has used its Michelin Overlap Technology (MOT) to develop this tyre which means using three reinforced plies and a layer of rubber beneath the tread to make the tyre robust and less prone to go flat.

At the launch of the City Pro series, Pradeep G Thampy, Commercial Director, Two Wheels, Michelin Asia, Africa and Middle East, said, "Scooters have become increasingly popular in India and emerged as a preferred choice of commuting because of ease of riding and parking in congested areas. The convenience of push start, fuel efficiency and comfort of automatic transmission are enablers of this new trend, which has also seen more and more women adopt scooters as their choice of mobility. MICHELIN City Pro, a robust tyre will offer daily commuters with a comfortable in-city ride experience."

The Michelin City Pro series will cater to scooters like Hero Pleasure and Maestro; Honda Activa, Activa-i, 125, 3G, Dio and Aviator; Suzuki Swish, Access and Lets; and Vespa LX, VX, S and VX Elegante.
