The 2021 MG ZS EV was launched in India yesterday and the latest update has come in quite early. The ZS EV was MG Motor's second product in our market and was launched just at the beginning of 2020. Exterior
Now, there's no difference in the way it looks. The only change is that it's ground clearance has been increased to 205 mm and the battery placement too has been set higher than before
Other than that, the MG ZS EV looks exactly the same as the overall design and appearance remain intact. So it continues with elements like the chrome studded grille, London-eye projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights (DRLs), LED tail lights, windmill inspired 17-inch diamond-cut machined alloy wheels, roof rails, rear spoiler, wing mirrors with side indicators and body-coloured bumpers among others. Needless to say, it remains unchanged in terms of dimensions as well. The SUV measures 4314 mm in length, 1809 mm in width, 1620 mm in height and the wheelbase stands at 2585 mm.
Interior & Features
While the interior of the new MG ZS EV remains identical to the predecessor, there have been some upgrades in its features list. So the new MG ZS EV sources the i-Smart 2.0 system from MG Hector which is an advanced version of the i-Smart system in its predecessor. Then it is equipped with the same 8.0-inch touchscreen and three driving modes - Sport, Normal and Eco. Then it is also equipped with a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, rain-sensing front wiper, cruise control, auto headlights, power-adjustable driver seat, push-button start-stop with smart entry, electronic gear knob and PM filter among others.
Safety
As far as safety features are concerned, first of all we should note that the battery in the MG ZS EV is IP6 certified so it can tackle various terrains. Then it gets six airbags, ABS, brake assist, ESC, electric parking brake, tyre pressure monitor, ISOFIX mounts, hill start assist, hill descent control, rear camera, parking sensors and heated wing mirrors among others.
Powertrain
Mechanically, the MG ZS EV continues with the same 44.5 kWh Hi-Tech battery pack that powers a permanent magnet synchronous motor. It develops 141 bhp and 353 Nm of peak torque. The carmaker claims that the battery pack offers a maximum range of up to 419 km when fully charged. It can clock triple-digit speeds in just 8.5 seconds thanks to power electronic (PE) solutions from UAES. The company claims that the SUV can be fully charged in six-eight hours through a standard AC charger. However, the 50kW DC fast charger is capable of providing the juice up to 80 per cent in just 50 minutes.
