MG Ties Up With Jio-BP, Castrol To Expand EV Charging Infrastructure

The three companies will explore setting up electric vehicle charging infrastructure for four-wheelers along with expanding Castrol's services to cater to EVs.

MG Motor India, Jio-BP and Castrol have entered a partnership to expand on the electric vehicle charging infrastructure in India along with developing an EV service network. Under the new partnership, Jio-BP and MG Motor India will look to expand the coverage of EV charging infrastructure in the country with a focus on electric four-wheelers while Castrol aims to expand the coverage of its multi-brand Auto Services network and Express Oil Change centres to also cater to EV owners.

Jio-BP, a joint venture between Reliance Industries and British oil and gas company 'BP', has already been pushing to develop EV charging infrastructure in the country under its Jio-BP Pulse brand. The company launched two EV charging hubs in the country last year – said to be one of the largest EV charging hubs currently in the country. The company has delved into setting up battery swapping stations across cities as well.

Meanwhile, MG has partnered with several companies to strengthen EV charging infrastructure in cities in India. These have included entering partnerships with Indian oil company Bharat Petroleum and Fortum to set up charging stations.

Moving to Castrol, the company says that it will be expanding the services offered by its multi-brand Service Centres to also include electric vehicles in a bid to make EV maintenance easier for owners. The company says that it will offer these services at Jio-BP's mobility stations as well as select Castrol Auto Service centres initially with plans to expand in the future. The company also announced that it would set up charging stations across its auto service network.

In recent years electric four-wheelers have started to gain more prominence in the Indian markets with a number of carmakers either launching or developing electrified models for India. MG currently offers the all-electric ZS EV in India while Tata has capitalized on the lower end of the price bracket with the Tigor EV, the popular Nexon EV and the recently introduced Nexon EV Max. Kia too recently entered the EV market with the CBU-import EV6 while luxury car companies such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Jaguar too have branched out into the electric vehicle market.
