Mercedes-Benz makes interesting cars and I am not talking just about passenger vehicles but also about commercial vans; a segment which is not so glamourous, especially when it comes to design. Mercedes-Benz makes interesting cars and I am not talking just about passenger vehicles but also about commercial vans; a segment which is not so glamourous, especially when it comes to design. But Mercedes clearly wants to take things to a new level, which is why it has come out with a futuristic business platform solution. The creation is called the Vision Van concept, which is an all-electric van which comes with its own drones!
Now, Mercedes has showcased quite a few vision concepts and we saw the F105 and the Vision Tokyo, but this one - the Vision Van concept - is part of the company's 'adVANce' initiative. Yes, it's been clever about even the name of the initiative. With the Vision Van Concept, Mercedes wants to show not only its evolution in technology but also how these creations can help in making life simpler by making technology intelligent. This helps the van stay connected and cash in on smart-delivery systems that the future demands.
Mercedes also claims that it is working on technology that will allow vehicles in the field to continually report their location and the status of the parcels on board, and to receive change instructions from a centralized home base.
The Vision Van concept is a pretty large bread box which is accentuated with silver and has futuristic design cues such as blue accent lighting along the lower body, LED headlights, and a light-up grille that displays a world-map motif, among various other patterns.
The Vision Van Concept comes equipped with a 75-kWh electric drive unit which is said to provide a range of 80 to 270 kilometres which basically depends on the application. Of course, there's no driver so entry into the car is from the right-hand side(since it caters to the European audience) or via the giant hatch at the back.
The concept also features shelving units inside that slide out the back for easy loading but the most important feature perhaps on the Vision van concept are the integrated delivery drones. So, Mercedes wants less human interface for both the delivery driver and the consumer, which might turn out to be a win-win situation.
