Mercedes-Benz Will Be The First Car Maker To Launch BS VI Compatible Cars

Mercedes-Benz India has been on top of its game in 2017 and was the carmaker to sell the most cars during the calendar year to retain the top spot. Of course, it's looking to stretch that lead in the coming years and the only way to do that is to get ahead of the competition.

There are two deadlines that the auto industry is looking forward to adhering to. One is the 2030 deadline for switching to EVs and the second is moving on to making BS VI compliant engines; the latter of which will be effective across the country in the next couple of years. Mercedes-Benz India, however, is not willing to wait that long, as the company has already announced that it will launch its first BS VI fuel compatible car in India from January 19, 2018. Yes, that's a big achievement not just for the company but also for the Government as it boosts their agenda of bringing in cleaner fuels into India.

India will be skipping the BS V norms altogether and we'll see BS VI norms come into force from April 2020. This is a big step as it has already seen a host of investments from both car makers as also oil refineries, to make this a possibility. The BS VI compatible cars from the Mercedes-Benz stable will be Made- in-India, for India and that too is a big achievement for the company.

The fact that the company's cars will be BS VI fuel compatible, it will help the carmaker sell their cars in Delhi from April 2018. To jog your memory, the Oil Ministry has already confirmed that it will advance the roll out of BS-VI fuel in Delhi to April 2018 and Mercedes-Benz India is among the first car manufacturers to be ready.

We expect more car makers to come up with their announcements in the coming months.
