  • Mercedes Benz Vision EQXX will be showcased in January 2022
  • The car will be a compact concept with a 1,000 km of range
  • It will come with new age battery tech which has 20% higher density

Mercedes Benz has teased a futuristic electric car called the Vision EQXX which claims to have a 1,000 km range. This vehicle is part of a new technology platform that's a testbed to improve the efficiency of electric vehicles. This is part of Daimler's vision of being all-electric by 2030. When the concept was teased last year, Mercedes was talking up a range of around 1,200 km but it seems like the German giant has settled in on a more achievable range of 1,000.

"As you may know, we have been working on translating our strategic ambition to "Lead in Electric Drive" into a car for some time: Now, the VISION EQXX is set to become the most efficient electric vehicle we have ever built - with a real-world range of more than 1,000 km. And I'm extremely happy that it will be unveiled to the public very soon - on January 3, 2022," said Markus Schafer, the COO of Mercedes Benz.

Schafer admitted that if Mercedes Benz is to be successful with EVs, it needs to quickly improve the range of its cars.

The EQS is an electric S-Class which is the first Mercedes branded EV in the US

"That's why we have set a more than an ambitious goal for ourselves with the VISION EQXX: We want to develop a compact-class electric vehicle that can drive 1,000 km at a stretch on one battery charge under real road conditions, with a single-digit consumption value for kilowatt-hours per 100 kilometers at normal highway speeds," he added.

He added this new car will be equipped with battery cells that have 20 percent higher energy density than the EQS. While this will still be the unveiling of a concept, Mercedes has made it clear its technology will find its way into its consumer products. Already, Mercedes has shown the ability to transform its flagship S-Class into a purpose-built EV with the radically different EQS.
