The Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen has recently made history by producing its 20 millionth car. The jubilee car, an S-500 Electric Plug-in Hybrid, is available to fans and employees for special occasions. The car was received by Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, and by Markus Schafer, Member of the Divisional Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Production and Supply Chain Management.

"The twenty-million cars from the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen would stretch two and a half times around the world. For Mercedes-Benz, this jubilee is an historic number. Each of these twenty million vehicles stands for a satisfied Mercedes-Benz customer - that is a great evidence of the trust placed in our brand. At the same time, it obliges us to continue in the same way and to not reduce our efforts," stated Zetsche.

This event follows closely after another momentous occasion; Mercedes-Benz has also reached 20 million Facebook fans which is the largest fan base the brand has even seen. The Sindelfingen plant also celebrated its centenary anniversary this year. In its early years, the plant had been used to manufacture airplanes and airplane engines. It only began producing automobiles in 1946.

Schafer then stated that he was confident of making the next 20 million cars in a much shorter period of time. Mercedes will be investing a 1.5 billion Euros in a futuristic new production facility in Sindelfingen.

The obsidian black S-500 e jubilee edition will be available for use to fans and employees in order to create a social media buzz around its on-going history by sharing the resulting footage. The S-500 e is currently 1 of 5 Plug-In Hybrids available in the Mercedes-Benz family with the company aiming at introducing 5 more in the next 2 years.
