Mercedes-Benz is replacing the GLK worldwide with the GLC. After a very successful and profitable run for the GLK compact SUV comes to a close with 1.5 million units sold, the new SUV will aim to achieve even greater sales as it is for the first time the car will be offered also as a right hand drive model (for sale in Commonwealth countries).

The new car will be offered in multiple engine variants - including the 350e plugin hybrid. The GLC 170bhp 220d & 204bhp 250d are the cars that interest us the most in India of course. But Mercedes-Benz says 211bhp 250 4Matic is also likely to be available at launch.

The GLC will need to take on stiff competition with the very successful Audi Q5, and BMW X3, besides the newer offerings like the Land Rover Discovery Sport. Mercedes-Benz promises many segment best features and attributes on the GLC. Besides autonomous functions like steering assist & a new park pilot this will also include a new GPS + radar sensing system that will track the coming road or terrain and optimise engine, gearbox and the suspension setup to ensure the highest possible levels of efficiency. In fact Mercedes-Benz is already claiming best in class fuel efficiency across the range. Especially the diesel where claimed mileage ranges between 18 - 20Km/l.

Mercedes-Benz aims to launch the car in India only in the second half of 2016. An Auto Expo showing is likely to get the ball rolling in our market though.
