Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain Launch Details Revealed

Mercedes-Benz will be introducing the E-Class All-Terrain in India on September 28, 2018. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain made its global debut last year as the rugged version based on the E-Class station wagon and was showcased at the Auto Expo in February this year. The E-Class All-Terrain stands unique as the company's first station wagon for the Indian market but does face competition from the Volvo V90 Cross Country that was launched in the country last year. With the E-Class All-Terrain, Mercedes-Benz India will be retailing three versions of the E-Class including the long wheelbase sedan, standard wheelbase AMG E 63 and now the station wagon.

    Visually, the Mercedes-Benz E-Clas All-Terrain is a spruced up E-Class with cosmetic additions including honeycomb grille with the brushed silver twin slats, revised bumper with faux diffusers, black body cladding at the sides and wheel arches, which extends to the rear as well. The estate crossover comes with chrome tipped twin exhausts at the rear and roof rails. The E-Class All-Terrain will be riding on 19-inch alloy wheels with 20-inchers as optional, while the ground clearance has also seen a marginal increase on the model.

    Inside, the cabin on the Mercedes-Benz E-Clas All-Terrain mimics that of the standard E-Class sedan and comes with the panoramic sunroof, COMAND infotainment system, air suspension, ambient lighting and a lot more. The rear legroom though isn't as liberated as the long wheelbase edition, and you do miss out on create comforts like seat recline function and soft pillow headrests. Nevertheless, you do get improved cargo space measured at 640 litres, which can be expanded further to a massive 1820 litres by folding the rear seats.

    Under the hood, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain will draw power from the 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine tuned for 191 bhp and 400 Nm of peak torque, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. This motor is said to be BS6 compliant, and will be the second BS6 compatible powertrain from the automaker after the one seen on the S-Class facelift. The motor will also make its way on the C-Class facelift.

    Furthermore, the E-Class All-Terrain will also get Mercedes' 4MATIC All-Wheel Drive system as standard, making it capable of wandering off tarmac for some light off-roading. The All-Terrain is capable of hitting 0-100 kmph in 8 seconds, while the top speed is rated at 232 kmph. the car comes with five driving modes on offer.

    Prices for the Mercedes-Benz E 220d All-Terrain is expected to be in the vicinity of Rs. 60-65 lakh (ex-showroom), pitting directly against the Volvo. Volumes won't be the mainstay for the E-Class All-Terrain but the model surely brings a lot of novelty to the Indian market.
