Cyclical price revision has become a norm across the auto sector and generally automakers increase prices of their model range towards the end of the year. Even Mercedes-Benz India has announced a price hike of 2 per cent on select models from January 2022 but is providing a price protection scheme on select models. According to the new scheme, customers who have booked their cars and are waiting for MY 21 cars to be delivered will get the car at the old price it was booked at. In addition, customers who book select range of cars including the A-Class, GLA, and E-Class until December 31, 2021, will be offered a price protection as well.

The company has cited rise in input cost as the primary reason of the price hike. In a statement the company said, "In order to offset the costs for such feature enhancements amidst rising inputs costs, Mercedes-Benz will upwardly revise the ex-showroom price of only select models. The price revision ranging up to 2 per cent will be in effect from January 01, 2022. Mercedes-Benz has also extended the price protection to those customers who have booked the GLE 400 and GLE 400d SUVs, and have been waiting since April to get the delivery because of the long waiting period given the semi-conductor shortage issue.
