Mercedes AMG S63e Spied, A Hybrid With More Than 690 bhp

- The S63e could have an output of 690 bhp
- This car could have a higher end variant which would do 789 bhp
- The car looks ready for production and could have 2022 release
Mercedes and its parent Daimler have already committed to an all-electric future. At IAA Mobility, it even showed off the first AMG branded EV, based on the EQS. But before that full transition happens, it will also be investing some of its energies in plugin hybrid vehicles. Now, the AMG S63e has been spotted wearing a full-body camouflage wrap. It is hiding the AMG branding and also the front and rear fascia. That being said, this image from Motor.es gives a vivid look at the new Mercedes which hasn't been announced yet.
It features some design upgrades over the standard S-class and has bumper styling changes as well with dual rear fender caps for the gas and hybrid plug which aren't visible in these spy shots. While details around the powertrain aren't out yet it is believed that Mercedes plans on pairing a twin-turbo V8 architecture with an electric motor which is said to have a combined output of around 690 bhp.

There could be an even more powerful variant which has 789 bhp and it could be potentially called the S73e. It will also likely get an automatic gearbox that will power the all-wheel-drive system.
By the looks of it, the car looks ready for production and it could launch in 2022 though delays could happen thanks to the global semiconductor crisis. The car will likely have the best technology that Mercedes offers which will include the MBUX system as well.
Mercedes has plans of deploying an AMG S-class based on a fully electric powertrain as well as a Maybach SUV but these cars are a couple of years away, so this new plugin model could be a stopgap measure.
