Maruti Suzuki India's Biggest Recall Yet; Baleno and Swift DZire Affected

Maruti Suzuki India has issued a recall for two of its top selling cars - Baleno and Swift DZire over faulty airbag controller software and faulty fuel filters. While the company will be recalling 75,419 units of the Baleno for issue with the airbags, 1,961 units of the Swift DZire will be recalled for inspection and replacement of a faulty fuel filter. Maruti has claimed that this recall has been issued proactively and voluntarily taking customer safety into consideration.
The Baleno's which have been recalled include both petrol and diesel variants and were manufactured between August 3, 2015 and May 17, 2016. Out of the 75,419 Baleno's 15,995 cars are diesel variants that were manufactured between August 3, 2015 and March 22, 2016 and will also be attended to for inspection and replacement of a faulty fuel filter like the Swift DZire. The recall units also includes 17,231 car were allotted for export.
As for the Swift DZire, Maruti Suzuki India will only recall the recently launched diesel variant with Auto Gear Shift (AGS), which means customers with petrol and manual diesel variants will not be affected by this recall. As mentioned before these units will be recalled to replace faulty fuel filter. This is not the first recall issued by Maruti Suzuki this year as the company has already recalled 20,427 Units of S-Cross For Faulty Brake Part earlier this month.
The company has announced that starting 31 May 2016, Maruti Suzuki dealers will contact the owners of the respective vehicles that come under the recall criteria. Maruti has also said that both the software upgrade and the replacement of faulty fuel filter, will be done free of cost. Customers who want to ascertain if their vehicle is covered can check by visiting the Nexa website for the Baleno and Maruti's official website for the Swift DZire. The customer is requested to fill in the chassis number (MA3 followed by 14 digit alpha-numeric number) on the computer screen.
