Making its entry into the light commercial vehicle segment, Maruti Suzuki has launched the Super Carry LCV with prices starting at Rs. 4.01 lakh (ex-showroom, Ludhiana). Maruti's first ever LCV in recent times, the Super Carry marks the automaker's beginning into the commercial vehicle space and has introduced new dedicated dealerships for retailing the LCV across the country and will carry a new corporate identity. The first three dealerships have been opened in Ludhiana, Ahmedabad and Kolkata respectively, while sales are set to commence in August this year. Maruti is offering the Super Carry in two colours - Superior White and Superior Silver.

RS Kalsi, Executive Director Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki said, “Super Carry is designed and developed basis detailed research and understanding of customer requirements. It offers best of both the worlds – power and strength as well as carrying capacity. We are confident Super Carry will enhance the profitability of our customers.”

Maruti Suzuki says the Super Carry has been developed with an investment of Rs. 300 crore and is powered by the 793cc twin-cylinder diesel engine that made its debut on the Celerio last year and comes paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. Compared to the Celerio, the oil burner is de-tuned on the Super Carry and produces 32bhp of power at 3500rpm and maximum torque of 75Nm of torque at 2000rpm (47bhp and 125Nm on the Celerio). With a compact engine, the automaker says the Super Carry can deliver an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 22.07 km/l and has a top speed of 80 km/h.

The Super Carry LCV comes with a loading bay of 3.25 sq.mt and offers a payload capacity of 740 kg. The ground clearance stands at 175mm, while suspension duties are performed by MacPherson struts at the front and a rigid axle with leaf springs at the rear. The wheelbase measures 2110mm and at 4.3 metres, the turning radius similar to that of a hatchback. The LCV gets all the basic features including a light steering wheel, mobile charging socket, dual assist grip, multi-purpose storage spaces, lockable glovebox and bottle holders. An air-conditioner however, is missing from the ensemble.

Riding on 14-inch wheels, Maruti states that the Super Carry is equipped with Load Sensing Proportioning Valve (LSPV) braking system that provides better stability during braking along with the front disc and rear drum brakes. Produced at Maruti's Manesar facility, Maruti will make the Super Carry available in more parts across India as its commercial network grows. The company says that its LCV will come with the same after-sales support as its other products and is offering a warranty of 2 years/72,000 km, whichever is earlier. Maruti has already commenced exporting the Super Carry to international markets, where the model is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine. Prospective customers can get in touch with Maruti at 1800 200 6392 or 1800 102 1800 (toll free) to make enquiries and leave contact details.
