Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has achieved a milestone by producing 2 million vehicles in a single calendar year for the first time. According to the automaker, this accomplishment makes Maruti Suzuki the only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in India to hold this distinction in passenger vehicle production.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga CNG

 

The landmark 2 millionth vehicle, a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, was rolled out from the company’s manufacturing plant in Manesar, Haryana. Of the total production, approximately 60 per cent of the vehicles were manufactured in Haryana, while the remaining 40 per cent came from Gujarat. The top five models produced during the year included the Baleno, Fronx, Ertiga, WagonR, and Brezza.

 

Commenting on the milestone, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “The 2 million production milestone is a testament to India’s manufacturing potential and our dedication to ‘Make in India’ initiative. This achievement reflects our commitment, alongside our supplier and dealer partners, to driving economic growth, supporting nation building, and making India’s automobile industry self-reliant and globally competitive. Maruti Suzuki operates three major production facilities: two in Haryana (Gurgaon and Manesar) and one in Gujarat (Hansalpur). Collectively, these facilities have an annual production capacity of 2.35 million units. Looking ahead, the company has plans to significantly increase its capacity to 4 million units annually.

 

As part of its expansion strategy, Maruti Suzuki is setting up a new greenfield manufacturing plant in Kharkhoda, Haryana. Initially, the facility will have a production capacity of 2.5 lakh units per year and is expected to commence operations in 2025. Once fully operational, the Kharkhoda plant will contribute an additional capacity of 1 million units annually.
