Maruti Suzuki Reports 2% YoY Drop In April 2022 Production; Output Drops 4% Against March 2022

Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest carmaker, recently reported witnessing a nearly 2 per cent year-on-year drop in vehicle production in April 2022. Last month, the carmaker manufactured 157,392 units in India, against the 159,955 vehicles produced in April 2021. At the same time, compared to the 163,392 units produced in March 2022, Maruti Suzuki India reported witnessing a month-on-month production drop of nearly 4 per cent in April 2022. The above numbers also include vehicles produced by Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited and vehicles manufactured for sale to other manufacturers (Toyota).

In the regulatory filing on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Maruti Suzuki India said, "The shortage of electronic components had a minor impact on the production of vehicles during the month. The company took all possible measures to minimise the impact. As the supply situation of electronic components continues to be unpredictable, it might have some impact on the production volume in FY 2022-23 as well."
Last month, the cumulative production of Maruti Suzuki's entry and subcompact segment cars like - Alto, S-Presso, WagonR, Celerio, Swift, Ignis, Baleno (Glanza), and Dzire - stood at 99,633 units. Compared to the 112,488 vehicles produced in April 2021, the company saw a decline of 11 per cent YoY. In April 2022, Maruti Suzuki also witnessed a 20 per cent drop in the production of the Ciaz compact sedan, at 1,756 units. The company had produced 2,194 units of the Ciaz sedan during the same month last year.
However, the company saw a massive 30 per cent rise in utility vehicle production, which includes models like the Ertiga, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza (Urban Cruiser), XL6, and the Jimny (export only). The cumulative production of these models stood at 40,399 units, as against 31,059 vehicles produced in April 2021. Last month, the company also sold 11,166 units of the Eeco van, a drop of nearly 6 per cent compared to 11,844 units produced during the same month in 2021.
In April 2022, Maruti Suzuki India also sold 4,438 units of the Super Carry light commercial vehicle (LCV). Compared to the 2,370 units produced in April 2021, the company saw a massive YoY decline of 87 per cent.
