Maruti Suzuki India has some major plans for the Indian car market in 2016. The Indo-Japanese carmaker has lined-up a number of launches for this year and will be showcasing most of them at the 2016 Auto Expo. One of these much awaited cars is the all-new Ignis sub-compact crossover-SUV. Recently the carmaker's Japanese partner Suzuki Motors launched the car in its home market - Japan, along with a promotional video that talks in length about the cars features and specifications.

Now, the Suzuki Ignis shown in the video is the Japanese version and even the narrative itself is in Japanese. That being said, the video is largely self-explanatory and with a little bit of attention it wouldn't be too hard for you to figure out the amazing feature offering that makes the Ignis an exceptional product.

Talking about the features of the new Maruti Suzuki Ignis, the video reveals that the car comes with number of segment-first offering like - 4-Wheel-Drive (4WD) system, hill decent control, Suzuki's adaptive Dual Camera Breaking system (DCBS), lane management system, along with front, rear and side camera for parking assist. In addition, Maruti Suzuki Ignis also comes with ABS and EBD as standard feature along with driver and co-passenger airbag as option on the base variants.

The video also talks about the interiors and cabin space of the Ignis. The car comes with neatly designed dashboard, spacious cabin and premium upholstery. At the front you get bucket seats and adjustable split seats at the rear. One of the most interesting features of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis is the rear seats that can be adjusted to offer best seating position along with offer three levels of booth capacity. With all the seats back and upright, the car offers a decent boot space of 133-litres, which can be expanded to 258-litres and 415-litre by adjusting the rear seats.

Dimensionally, the car measures 3,700mm in length, 1,660mm in width, and stands tall at 1,595mm in height. The wheelbase spans 2,435mm along with 180mm off the ground clearance, which is indicative of its SUV-like genetics. In terms of design, the Ignis carries a tallboy persona like the WagonR along with some sporty character line and sharp exterior features.

Under the hood, the Japanese-spec Ignis will be available with a single engine option that is equipped with the company's SHVS mild hybrid technology. The 1.3-litre Durajet petrol engine is capable of churning out a maximum of 89.75bhp with an additional 3bhp contributed by its electric motor. As for transmission option the Ignis will come mated to a CVT gearbox as standard across all variants and 2WD drivetrain.

Now it is quite possible that when Maruti launches the Ignis in India later this year, the car will come without most of these features listed here. This is to reduce production cost and make the car available for mar market in India. Upon its launch the car will go up against the likes of Mahindra KUV100 and is likely to come mated to the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine that powers the new Mauti Suzuki Swift and Baleno.
