Maruti Suzuki Ignis: Interior Design, Space And Features Explained
Highlights
- The Ignis' cabin gets a dual-tone finish in black and beige colours
- The floating touchscreen system is similar to that on Mercedes Benz cars
- The Ignis gets a roomy cabin and manages to pack in a large boot as well
Indian audiences are not one to settle for mediocre. Cars like the Baleno and the Hyundai i20 have done exceedingly well in the Indian market not only because they are priced well, look good and have decent performance but because they were feature rich and had great and more importantly a unique interior design. Suzuki has learnt well from its experiences with the likes of the Vitara Brezza and the Baleno and has given the Ignis a brand new and a rather premium interior. The Ignis has finally made its way to India and we've given you a first look review of the car and also discussed the exterior design in detail, we now take you through all the details of how the car's interior is designed, what features it gets and of course, the space it has for passengers.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis Interior Design:
At first glance, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis employs a completely different approach to design as compared to what we have seen with other recent Maruti Suzuki products. To start off with, the Ignis has a two tone black and off-white interior as compared to the black and beige or all beige interior that is usually seen in most of its products. The dashboard itself is quite flat and sharp and but the designers have made sure that there are enough contours and steps to make it look attractive. The large centrally mounted screen is similar to what Mercedes-Benz offers on the likes of the GLA SUV (and other cars on the same platform).
The lower half of the central console just under the screen holds the climate control switches. The Ignis gets a set of toggle switches to operate the climate control and although they don't flick both ways, the switches have a good tactile feel and click to it. The quality of the plastics is also satisfactory for the segment. The 12-volt charger along with USB and AUX inputs are in two symmetrical circular ports just under the climate control switches and a large cubby hole similar to the Brezza is available in the central console to place your phone in.
The steering wheel is similar to the one used on the Baleno and gets the audio and phone controls. The chunky steering wheel does not get any leather wrapping like the Ciaz does but we are sure it can be added as a part of the iCreate customisation program. The instrument cluster on the Ignis is crisp and clear and features two main dials. The speedometer and tachometer get white backlighting and a blue accent light but also gets customisable ambient lighting options in the top of the line variant.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis Interior Features:
The top of the line Ignis gets the large touch screen with inbuilt navigation, Bluetooth and telephone sync capabilities. The Ignis also gets both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is a first-in-class feature. The other versions of the Ignis will get a non-touchscreen infotainment system which will not be getting Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The Ignis also gets climate control on the top of the line Alpha variant with the toggle switches. The other three variants will get a standard knob type air conditioning unit. Other features will include a trip computer, rear view camera and parking sensors.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis Seats and Space:
The Ignis is offered with a 5 seater layout in India. All variants have a black upholstery package only although designs do vary from variant to variant. The top of the line version seen here has comfortable seats (driver's side height adjustable) and offers good lumbar support as a whole. The front seats slide and recline to adjust to any driving position. The rear seats are quite upright but comfortable and offer a lot of leg space as compared to cars like the Swift.
The central tunnel is not very obtrusive into the interior compartment, which means three people can easily sit next to each other at the rear. That said, the rear seats should have had an armrest central console and rear AC vents, both of which are missing. The headroom, of course, is plenty due to the way the Ignis is designed. The Ignis is the second car to be based on the Baleno platform and the packaging advancements are pretty obvious. Despite being very spacious at the back, the Ignis still has a large boot.
The Ignis will be launched on 13th January and will be priced between Rs. 4.5-6 lakh. The Ignis will be available with both petrol and diesel engines and to know more about them read - 10 Things You Need To Know About The Ignis. The Ignis will only be sold through the Nexa channels and will be sold with both a manual and AMT gearbox on both petrol and diesel engines, which is yet another first-in-class feature.
