    Maruti Suzuki Baleno, arrived in India a month ago and has gone on to amass impressive numbers since then. In fact, Maruti Suzuki's latest premium hatchback had already received more than 21,000 bookings in a little over 2 weeks. Armed with versatile features, Maruti Suzuki Baleno competes against established names like the Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz, and Volkswagen Polo.

    Considering the names the hatchback counts as its rivals, does the Maruti Suzuki Baleno have what it takes to beat them? We take a closer look at the Maruti Suzuki Baleno's features and variants to see if it has the mettle.

    First things first, Maruti Suzuki Baleno is offered in 9 variants spread across 4 trims, 2 engines, and 2 transmission options. The variants, namely, Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Alpha, endeavour to offer everything -  from the bare-minimum to luxury.

    a. Sigma

    It goes without saying that the base variant gets only basic provisions. The Baleno's Sigma trim gets no entertainment provisions, and for comfort and convenience it gets central locking, front power windows, tilt steering, adjustable headrest for the front seat, manual AC, and an accessory socket.
    Its list of exterior features comprise body-coloured door handles, ORVMs, bumpers, back door spoiler, and rear combination lamps with LED.

    However, the Sigma trim doesn't suffer from the lack of safety features. Maruti Suzuki Baleno's entire line-up is amply loaded in terms of safety features. Sigma gets an anti-theft security system, ABS with EBD, dual airbags, and front seat belt pre-tensioners and force limiters among other features.

    b. Delta (In addition to Sigma's features)

    In addition to the provisions on Sigma, the Delta trim on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno gets chrome accent front grille, turn indicators on ORVMs, metal finish for inside door handles, audio with FM/MP3/CD, AUX & USB, Bluetooth connectivity, and steering mounted controls. It also gets remote keyless entry, power windows with auto-up and pinch guard(front and rear), electrically foldable ORVMs, and automatic AC.

    The only additional supplies this one gets includes reverse parking sensors, and rear wiper, washer and defogger. One must note, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno CVT is offered only on the Delta trim.

    c. Zeta (In addition to Delta's features)

    Other than the provisions on Delta, the Zeta trim of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno alloy wheels, illumination for glove box, luggage rom, and front footwell, multi information speedometer display (with colour TFT), and leather-wrapped steering wheel. Additionally, this trim also sports front fog-lamps, auto head-lamps, and auto dimming IRVMS. For entertainment, it gets the same features as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno's Delta trim.

    As far as comfort and convenience goes, the Zeta trim has been equipped with telescopic steering, follow me home lights, front centre armrest with storage, height adjustable driver seat, and start/stop button.

    d. Alpha (In addition to Zeta's features)

    The list of features exlcusive to the Maruti Suzuki Baleno's top-end trim comprises DRLs with LED, projector head-lamps, reverse parking camera, SmartPlay infotainment system, navigation system, voice command, and Apple CarPlay.

    It might interest you to know that the provision of Apple CarPlay on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is a first for its segment.

    With about Rs. 1,060 crore invested in the manufacturing of Baleno, Maruti Suzuki has a lot riding on the hatchback as far as India is concerned. Globally, the carmaker will start exporting the Maruti Suzuki Baleno to 100 overseas locations including Europe, Japan, South America in 2016.
