Highlights

  • Baleno's sales crossed the 75,000 mark in India in less than 9 months
  • Maruti Suzuki sold 9,120 units of the Baleno in July, 2016
  • However, the Hyundai i20's sales topped the segment last month
Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the automaker's premium hatchback, has undoubtedly performed well since its launch here in October, 2015. In fact, by mid-November Maruti Suzuki had received over 21,000 bookings for the Baleno. Additionally, there were days when as many as 1000 orders for the Maruti Baleno were received in one day. While one may be inclined to ascribe those numbers to the initial buzz, the company has indeed managed to sustain its latest hatchback's success since then.

Last month, 9,120 units of the Baleno were sold, thus registering a month-on-month growth of 30.9 per cent. It must be noted, the car registered its best monthly sales in December, 2015 - when 10,572 units of the Maruti Baleno were retailed. Its primary rivals, the Hyundai i20 and the Honda Jazz, on the other hand, sold 9,910 and 3,517 units in July, respectively.

P.S: The Hyundai i20's numbers include both, the i20 and i20 Active.

While the i20 may be currently leading the segment's numbers, Maruti Baleno's month-on-month growth looks quite promising, especially in the face of such sturdy competition. And if that isn't say enough about its popularity, there's also the fact that Baleno crossed the 75,000 sales mark in India in less than 9 months and currently commands a waiting period of 6 to 8 months.

In fact, the demand for the hatchback has already lead the company to push its production from 8,000 units per month to 12,000 units. Additionally, the company will also reportedly start trial production of the Baleno at its upcoming plant in Gujarat by Q1 2017. Just so you know, it is currently manufactured exclusively at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plant.
