With that being said, one must note that Mammootty isn't the only one to have expressed interest in buying the car. Founder of the heritage transport museum in Manesar, Gurgaon, and renowned quiz-master Derek O'Brien among others are said to be interested too. However, the family is apparently insisting on handing the car over to Maruti Suzuki for restoration.
Harpal Singh became the first ever customer of the M800 32 years ago when he won the allotment for the car through a lucky draw. Then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi handed over the car's keys to Mr Singh on December 14, 1983. Harpal Singh passed away in 2010, and his wife died 2 years later. The car has been parked outside their house in Green Park, South Delhi since then. His two daughters, who also live in South Delhi with their families, are unable to maintain the car, and thus, wish for it to be restored by the carmaker.
