Highlights

  • The Mahindra U321 is likely to make its debut sometime next year
  • The touchscreen system is likely to be the same unit as the XUV500
  • The Mahindra U321 MPV will rival the likes of Toyota Innova Crysta

Mahindra's upcoming seven-seater MPV, codenamed U321, was recently spotted testing in India yet again. This time around we also got to take a closer look at the U321 MPV's cabin, mainly the front seats at the dashboard of the vehicle. Judging by the looks of it, the new MPV's cabin appears to be production-ready and possibly one of the best-looking interior design that we have seen on a Mahindra car yet. The car is still covered in heavy camouflage, which indicates that Mahindra could be in the final stages of testing, ahead of its official launch, which is expected sometime later this year.

As seen in the image, the MPV comes with an all-new two-tone dashboard, showing no similarities to any of the existing Mahindra product. There is a large piano black finished surface that covers a major portion of the dashboard, along with a large touchscreen infotainment display at the centre with buttons and dials on either side of it for controlling the system and large central air-con vents above it. We can also see that the MPV will come with an automatic climate control, a new three-spoke steering wheel, a twin-pot instrument cluster and large air-con vents on either end. The cabin, in general, comes with a light beige shade with fabric upholstery and armrest for both seats and the MPV also appears to get one-touch-down power windows for both driver and passenger side.

While in the video we can only see the rear portion of the car, which is also heavily camouflaged, based on earlier spy images, we know that the MPV will get a wide grille with chrome inserts. The grille will be flanked by larger sweptback headlamps with double barrel projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights. The rear portion of the MPV comes with a large rear windshield with a single wiper and vertically stacked LED taillamps. The video also shows that the MPV comes with fat 5 spoke alloy wheels.

Under the hood, the U321 will reportedly feature an all-new 1.6-litre diesel engine along with a petrol unit. The engines are likely to come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic transmission as an option. Mahindra could reveal a pre-production of the MPV at the upcoming Auto Expo 2018, on February 7.
