It was an extremely important car when it was launched and Mahindra brought it out with much fanfare in 2011. The XUV500, since then has come a long way and today the company has announced that it has sold 1.5 lakh units of the car.

This number includes the exports of the car.  It’s been four years in the market and it has got its fair share of attention amidst growing competition. The XUV was designed entirely in-house at the Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai and it was recently that the company brought out a facelift of the SUV.

Speaking on the XUV500 milestone, Pravin Shah, President & Chief Executive (Automotive), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said “This is a proud moment for us as the XUV500 reaches this milestone. We would like to thank our customers for their support which has enabled the brand to grow from strength to strength. This achievement reaffirms the XUV500’s immense popularity as it continues to set new standards in its category.”

The XUV500 is manufactured in the company’s Chakan plant and its design has been inspired from the cheetah. This is why you see that the front and rear wheel arches are a bit more muscular but it’s the rear of the car that’s a tad bit disappointing. Under the hood of the XUV500 is a 2,2-litre mHawk engine which churns out 140bhp and that power coupled with the option of an AWD system, helps it tackle any terrain.
