Mahindra Scorpio Facelift To Be Launched This Year; Upgrades Planned
Highlights
- The Scorpio facelift will feature a new front grille & revised rear door
- A new touchscreen system with Android Auto will make it to the SUV
- The Scorpio facelift will also get a more efficient 6-speed auto gearbox
The current generation Mahindra Scorpio arrived in 2014 and hasn't seen any major upgrades ever since. However, the Indian auto giant has been readying up its popular selling SUV for a comprehensive update that is now confirmed to arrive later this year. The Mahindra Scorpio facelift is likely to be launched towards the end of July or early August 2017 in the country and will receive major upgrades to its aesthetics, in addition to getting new features on-board. Along with the Scorpio, Mahindra is also expected to introduce an updated XUV500 this year.
At the outset, the 2017 Mahindra Scorpio facelift is expected to get a completely reworked front grille as well as the rear door. The plastic cladding on the new Scorpio is likely to be given a complete miss instead of the body coloured unit that is currently seen. Other changes will include revised front and rear lamps, bumpers and possibly new alloy wheels as well. Do not expect to see major changes to the silhouette on the SUV, but the new Scorpio is likely to get a more upmarket and pleasing appearance with the latest version.
On the inside, expect to see a plethora of changes including a slightly reworked dashboard that will now accommodate an updated infotainment system. The unit will be the same as that seen on the Mahindra XUV500 that supports Android Auto, Ecosense, Connected Apps and the Emergency-Call feature that that connects you to the listed emergency contact, in case of an accident.
Do not expect to see major changes under the hood. The tried and tested 2.2-litre mhawk diesel engine will continue to serve purpose churning out 120 bhp of power and 280 Nm of torque. The major upgrade however, will be on the transmission line-up. We recently told you about Mahindra discontinuing the Scorpio automatic in the country and that is because there is a new version in the works. The Scorpio facelift will also see an upgraded 6-speed automatic gearbox on the SUV, sourced from Aisin. This is the same unit that was introduced on the XUV500 in 2015 and is said to offer better shift response.
Despite tough competition coming from compact SUVs in this segment, the Mahindra Scorpio has been a strong and consistent seller and still remains one of the more popular selling models for its automaker. The facelift will only help improve the SUV's number's further as it brings some modern-day improvements against the likes of the Tata Safari Storme, Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and the likes.
