Mahindra Recalls SsangYong Rexton SUV In India

Mahindra & Mahindra has issued a recall for the SsangYong Rexton SUV in India due to a suspected fault with the rear driveshaft. While the number of affected units hasn't been disclosed, the affects the units of the Rexton SUV manufactured on or before September 2014. The Rexton, first launched here in October, 2012, was the first vehicle to come out from the Mahindra-SsangYong stable.
The company, in a Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) filing, said, "The inspection and subsequent rectification will be carried out free of cost for all Rexton customers, who will be individually contacted by the company. As an endeavour to ensure a hassle-free experience for its customers, the company is proactively carrying out this activity. This action is also in compliance with SIAM's voluntary code on vehicle recall."
The SsangYong Rexton in India is currently offered with the 2.7-litre diesel engine in two states of tune: the 162bhp 2.7-litre RX270 XDi and the 184bhp 2.7-litre RX270 XVT. That said, the next generation model of the SUV is scheduled to debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in October. Codenamed Y400, the upcoming iteration of the Rexton SUV is underpinned by an all-new ladder frame chassis and will receive a design overhaul.
