The ambulances donated by the company are built on the company's Mahindra Supro van, which comes with a range of medical support features like - foldable stretcher cum trolley, first aid kit, cot stretcher with iv hook rod, provision of an oxygen cylinder, and attendant seats for 4 persons with storage. The ambulances also come with flammability resistance interiors, an anti-bacterial vinyl floor mat, fire extinguisher.
The initiative, which was supported by Mahindra's Group Chairman, Anand Mahindra, is one of the several other measures undertaken by the company to help the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier in May, the company rolled out its Oxygen on Wheels project, in a bid to ease the transportation of medical oxygen from manufacturing plants to hospitals and other medical facilities, in various cities across India. Before the end of May, the programme was initiated in at least eight cities, including - Delhi & NCR, Punjab, Hyderabad and Chennai.
But it's not just Mahindra. Earlier this month, even Toyota Kirloskar Motor donated oxygen concentrators to the Karnataka Government and also announced setting up an oxygen generating plant in Bidadi. Last month, Maruti Suzuki India had also announced an initiative to enhance the production of oxygen generators for COVID-19 patients. Furthermore, Sonalika tractors also said that it will support St. Stephen's Hospital Patients Welfare Society in New Delhi, by setting up a PSA oxygen plant.
