General Motors has already started shipping the Beat to Mexico and 3000 made in India units have already made it to foreign shores. Taking a step further, the company rolled out the first unit of its hatchback Beat which will be heading to Argentina. This will make the Latin American nation the sixth major export market for the model.

The first shipment will leave for Argentina next month and the company has grand plans for the car as it aims to export a total of 50,000 units of the model this year and the figure will increase in the coming years. This also shows, GM's commitment to delivering quality products globally and this means that the Talegaon plant in Maharashtra is capable of that.

This is also in tune with the 'Make-in-India' campaign and Argentina finds itself in the middle of a growing list of export markets. GM India already exports the left-hand drive version of the Beat to Mexico, Chile, Peru, Central American and Caribbean Countries and Uruguay. Now, the Beat a.k.a Spark is available in more than 70 markets. The Talegaon plant holds a production capacity of 1,30000 lakh cars per annum, which it will be able to upscale if the demand rises.

"Whether it is in India or anywhere else in the world, General Motors follows the highest quality standards in its manufacturing processes providing same high quality vehicles that customers in India and around the world expect and deserve," MD GM India Kaher Kazem said.

Using India as an export hub was on the cards considering the underutilised capacity after sales in India dropped. 30 percent of the annual production has been allotted to exports and while there are other cars in the pipeline for India based on the concepts we saw at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, we expect these too to be part of the export plan.
