Lexus To Showcase Kinetic Seat Concept At The Paris MotorShow
Highlights
Rather than a traditional upholstery-covered chair, the Kinetic Seat is more like high-end office furniture because of its flexible, webbed panels. They disperse a person's weight better, which makes sitting for long periods more comfortable. Now this idea is similar to a spider's web and it shows not just in the design but also the science behind making it.
The design allows the cushion and backrest to adjust as the driver's weight shifts. According to Lexus, this allows the seat to stabilize a person's head while a vehicle is moving and lets them maintain steady forward vision. The layout comes with the further advantage of relieving the pressure on the muscles around the spine, so occupants arrive at their destination more relaxed.
The webs have been made from a synthetic form of spider's silk. The substance comes microbial fermentation that creates a protein. Spinning it creates an environmentally friendly material that is also a great shock absorber. Now, Lexus has given no indication whether this concept will see the light of production but it might be part of a concept car that Lexus will bring out (probably the sub-compact UX Concept)
