  • The Lexus RZ electric crossover has been teased for the first time.
  • Its silhouette looks inspired from the NX300h.
  • It will be spawned by Toyota's tried and tested e-TNGA platform.

Lexus has released a teaser of its upcoming electric crossover - the RZ and the video gives us a glimpse of its design language in a very subtle manner. You get to see some familiar Lexus bits like the spindle grille and L-shaped running lights and even the silhouette looks very much inspired by the NX300h, making us wonder if it's based on the same model. There are large inlets in the lower corners of the front end and a profile shot shows a charging port between the front fender and the driver's door. At the rear, the taillights span the whole width of the back, and there's a flat spoiler on the roof which looks very Porsche like.

The Lexus RZ will be underpinned by the tried and tested e-TNGA platform.

The Lexus RZ will be a battery-electric vehicle and will be underpinned by the tried and tested e-TNGA platform, which Toyota has used on the bZ4X among others. That said, unlike the bZ4X, the Lexus RZ appears sharper and has a line that runs from the front fenders to the rear doors. The shape of the rear pillar is steeper as well, however, the physical proportions look similar between the Toyota and Lexus models. Since both models will be sharing the platform, the bZ4X and RZ could potentially use the same powertrain options, while the drive range may vary depending on the performance tuning to derive better range or enhanced power delivery.

The electric motor in the top-of-the-line variant of the Toyota model belts out around 212 bhp and is powered by a 72.8 kWh battery pack, while Toyota isn't revealing an estimated range as yet. The all-wheel-drive (AWD) Subaru Solterra can go around 354 km on a charge from the 71.4 kWh battery.
