    Electric vehicles have zero tailpipe emissions, as the on board motors directly drive the wheels. This means that electric vehicles also don't need a PUC certificate to be driven. However, this hasn't stopped the Kerala Traffic Police from fining the owner of an Ather electric scooter for riding without a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate.

    A photo of the challan from the bizarre incident also surfaced online, which showed that the e-scooter owner was fined a sum of Rs. 250, saying that 'the Pollution Under Control Certificate was not produced on demand, and the fine was imposed under section 213(5)(e) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
