Jaguar XF Sportback Unveiled
Highlights
- The Jaguar XF Sportbrake was unveiled by tennis star Andy Murray
- The XF Sportbrake borrows its design cues from the XF saloon
- Rivals: Audi A6 Avant, BMW 5-Series Touring and the E-Class Estate
The Jaguar XF Sportbrake comes with a heavily raked roofline that tapers into a lovely set of tail lamps that take inspiration from the F-Type sports car. There's a neat horizontal chrome strip that integrates into the reversing lights and that makes it even more special. Up front the Jaguar XF Sportbrake gets styling bits similar to the saloon. The full-length panoramic sunroof makes the cabin airy.
According to Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar, "As with the XF saloon, every line on the Sportbrake serves a clear purpose, creating a fast, sweeping silhouette. This gives the car a sense of speed and a very dynamic appearance. As a result, I think it looks just as sporty as the saloon, if not more so."
Innovations inside include an intuitive gesture-controlled sunblind for the Sportbrake's super-sized, full-length, panoramic roof, Driver Condition Monitoring to detect signs of tiredness after an active day and a waterproof Activity Key you can wear while playing sport. Jaguar has said that its customers can also specify Cabin Air Ionisation, which purifies air to provide protection against environmental pollution and promote health and wellbeing. Of course it's better on space and the infotainment system is a familiar one. The boot has been stretched to a generous 565 litres or 1700 litres with the rear seats folded. There's also a self-levelling rear suspension which ensures an 'effortless ride', even when towing loads of 2,000kg.
The Sportbrake will be offered with the same powertrain options fitted to the XF sedan, and this means a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder, 2.0-litre turbo diesel and 3.0-litre supercharged petrol V6. All the versions will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
