  • Jaguar Land Rover's Castle Bromwich plant starts production of Jaguar XE
  • The move comes in response to the XE and F-Pace's sales success
  • JLR has made a fresh investment of almost Rs. 890 Crore
2016 has been a very fruitful year for Tata Motors-Owned luxury carmaker - Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). The carmaker launched two new Jaguar products this year - the XE sedan and its first ever SUV - the F-Pace, both of which have been garnering some huge demand from customers in international markets. Following the successful start, the British carmaker has now decided to shift the production of the Jaguar XE to its Castle Bromwich plant and for that the company has invested GBP 100 million (almost Rs. 890 Crore).

Currently, the Jaguar XE is manufactured at the company's Solihull Plant and will be gradually transferred to the Castle Bromwich plant in Birmingham, in the UK itself. The newly launched Jaguar F-Pace, on the other hand, is currently manufactured at the Solihull plant and will continue to do so. Interestingly, with the arrival off the XE at the Birmingham plant, now all Jaguar sports and saloon cars will be manufactured at one location. As of now, Jaguar Land Rover has collectively invested GBP 1 billion (almost Rs. 8900 Crore) on infrastructure both at Solihull and Castle Bromwich.

With the additional GBP 100 million investment to welcome the Jaguar XE, the total amount of investment on the site is now more than GBP 500 million over the last two years. The investment is also supporting the production of XF, F-Type, and XJ, which are also built at the plant.

Wolfgang Stadler, Jaguar Land Rover's Executive Director of Manufacturing, said: "The significant investment to create two centres of excellence in aluminium vehicle manufacturing, utilising shared technologies, was deliberate. It gives us the flexibility to quickly respond to consumer demand for our growing range of products."

On the other hand, Nicolas Guibert, Castle Bromwich Operations Director, said: "2016 is a pivotal year for Castle Bromwich. The arrival of the XE sees us increase our model lines and volume. This plant has a rich heritage and is undergoing its most significant transformation in decades, with major infrastructure projects either complete or under way. The commissioning of our all-new press line and launch of our body shop to support the introduction of XE means Castle Bromwich is future-proof."
