Is it Worth Buying an Electric Car Now?
Highlights
With the new year beginning, automobile manufacturers are shuffling through a range of decisions; one of the more important ones is making the industry more compatible with the modern world and its choices. With the significant hike in petrol and diesel prices and increase in pollution, one of the more concerning questions is if you should invest in an electric car.
With Tesla being one of the pioneers in marketing this industry, there has been a considerable shift in consumer buying patterns, and electric cars have become quite popular. The industry saw its boom late last year, and with that, even the big-name brands like Ford and Mercedes are making their renditions of the same.
While most of their cars are still in the prototype stage, there are quite a few electric cars that you can already purchase. However, this brings you to the question of whether you should invest in an electric car just yet or wait for a few years.
Growth and prospects
Electric cars are mainly of two types. One is the conventional model, which runs fully on a battery installed in the car and requires no fuel. However, these models do require a power source to charge the batteries. The other uses a hybrid engine, meaning that they can run on both batteries as well as conventional fuel.
Although third-world countries like India are yet to be a part of this revolution, and first-world countries like Europe and especially America has already adapted to this change and are making quite a bit of progress in this industry. The market shows immense growth potential and will surely be as big as the conventional car market now. As far as the prices go, although they are a bit on the reasonable side right now, with the growth of the market and more companies launching their products, this might see a significant hike.
On the broader picture, since this industry is still at its nascent stage, you should not delay buying yourself an electric vehicle, more so if you are happy with the car models out already. However, if you are not very keen on the vehicle launches yet, you can wait for about a year before making the purchase, but any period later than that can take a toll on your budget.
Maintenance and use
Another common question people seem to ponder on is the usability of an electric car in today's economy. The majority of car enthusiasts argue that fuel-powered cars are better, mainly based on power and driving range.
Nevertheless, the strides this market has taken ever since the launch of the first electric car is no short than surprising. Now, even the least powerful model of a Tesla can beat a fuel-powered stock engine in the initial pick up and torque. That said, when it comes to driving range, it might not be as impressive. Electric cars can house only a particular capacity of the battery, which is the main factor of how long you can drive the car.
However, there are several public charging stations on the freeways and highways that ensure that you are not stuck on your trip. In addition to that, there are quite a few factors that affect the battery capacity. To begin with, if you run your car on economy mode and do not pump the throttle ever so often, your battery will last you for quite some time. To say the least, the electric car industry is almost at par with the fuel-powered car industry as of now.
Features
The types of features that you get in a car mainly depend on the make and manufacturer. However, there are a few standard features of an electric car that are novel and not easily found on other models. For instance, the keyless entry, free charging, and even digitized infographics of your car are all available even in the most basic electric car models. These are features that you have to pay extra for in a fuel-powered car.
In addition to that, the car prices are also more reasonable. Adding environment-friendly engines only make this deal better. While this industry has not reached its full potential yet, you will not regret buying an electric car in 2022. What you can do, however, is wait this year out and see the new models that these companies launch in the market.
