Incredible Cars That Have Been Embellished With A GTR Badge.
Highlights
- The GTR badge stands for Gran Turismo Racing.
- Cars from various nationalities adorn the GTR badge
- Two of the cars in this list are Nissans.
BMW E46 M3 GTR:
This machine is powered by a 4.0 litre V8 producing 444 BHP to the rear wheels, combined with a six-speed manual transmission. The car has a 0-100 time of just 3.4 seconds. This new V8 BMW is what aided them in obtaining a win against the great 911-GT3-R, the same Porsche that had beaten BMW in the previous championship by a fair margin. In order for them to be permitted to race their new V8 M3s, BMW made ten street-legal M3 GTRs for the public.
McLaren F1 GTR
In the 90s the McLaren F1 was already the fastest road-legal car on the planet. However, McLaren wanted to step their game up a notch with respect to their track car. The F1 GTR was already famous at the time for winning the 1995 Le Mans 24- hour race, while maintaining podium finishes as well. The F1 GTR came equipped with the legendary V12 made by BMW, cooling ducts, a massive rear wing with the addition of a restrictor that made sure that the engine produced no more than 600 BHP.
Mercedes Benz CLK GTR
If you played video games in the 90s, you would recognise this machine. This car indeed was a GT legend. A number of CLK GTRs were built for road use in order for them to be eligible to race in the FIA GT championship. This car was equipped with a complete carbon fibre body and a V12 producing a little over 600 bhp. AMG actually purchased an F1 GTR to test and see if their CLK was faster than McLaren, in turn beating McLaren that year.
Nissan Skyline R34 GTR
The R34 GTR was one of the most sought-after cars in the 90s. This piece of automotive marvel was very ahead of its time when compared to other touring cars. This machine was equipped with a four-wheel-drive system that enabled it to take corners at blistering speeds. The R34 was also outfitted with a twin-turbo straight-six engine with an estimated output of over 280 bhp, while the V- Spec variants came with carbon parts such as the rear diffuser. For most petrol heads out there, the R34 GTR is as good as it gets.
Nissan R35 GTR
One cannot even think of the acronym GTR without the picture of an R35 coming to their mind. This is the latest generation of the modern GTR from Nissan. The R35 first came into form in the year 2007. Ever since Nissan has been tweaking and fine-tuning it as the years go by. The R35 is famous for its incredible acceleration and the fact that it competes head-to-head with Ferraris and Lamborghinis alike. It is very recent that automakers have been able to compete with its 0-100 time of fewer than 3 seconds. This is possible due to the refined launch control system and its four-wheel-drive mechanism.
