  • The scooter is so compact which goes under the floor of the trunk

Hyundai has revealed a concept for a folding scooter that can be put in a car's trunk. The South Korean giant has issued patent filings which have now been discovered by the Drive. It has been classified as a folding personal mobility vehicle but the patent filing dates back as far as 2017 even though the publication happened in 2019.

The new device as per the illustrations is so small that it can fit just not inside the trunk but under the floor. The patent filing reveals the folding mechanism of the scooter and shows the additional batteries hinting that it would probably have an electric powertrain.

The scooter will likely have an electric powertrain

There are also illustrations for charging and pedestrian safety. The charging mechanism will be under the trunk along with a fake engine sound so that pedestrians know about its presence. It is also small enough that it could potentially be fitted inside the Tuscan and Santa Cruz pickup.

All of this could also be hogwash as patents often don't reach the production stage. Regardless, this looks like a complicated system to implement.
