Hyundai has unveiled the i20 Sport special edition model with a powerful engine in Germany. While it's still early days, the hot-hatch might make its way to India as well to go up against the speculated Maruti Suzuki Baleno variant which is equipped with a peppier engine and was spotted testing in Kochi in Kerala recently.

Developed at Hyundai's German technical centre in Russelsheim, the Kappa T-GDI engine in the Hyundai i20 Sport is a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit which is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The engine is equipped with a single-scroll turbo and delivers 120bhp of power and 172Nm of torque.

The more powerful Baleno variant also has similar specs in terms of its engine - a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged Boosterjet petrol motor which develops 110bhp of power and 170Nm of torque. The hatchback is likely to come with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Moving on to some of the i20 Sport's features, the car is a 5-door hatch with 18-inch wheels and a 20mm lowered suspension. The car will come exclusively, at least in Germany, in a Polar White paint job with contrasting blue decals. Notable aerodynamic improvements include new side skirts, a rear spoiler, and a new diffuser for the rear bumper with an integrated chrome exhaust pipe.

Standard equipment in the i20 Sport includes intelligent key, push-button start, projector headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights, a greyish-blue interior, etc.

Sales of the Hyundai i20 Sport in Germany will begin from the spring of 2016 onwards with prices starting from 19,990 Euros (Rs. 14.5 lakh approx.).

Until now, the most powerful i20 model from Hyundai was the i20 N Sport, which is equipped with a 1.4-litre naturally-aspirated engine, producing 115bhp of power and 160Nm of torque.
