Hyundai has shifting gears recently to come up with a car that will help them gain ground over its rivals in India. With the Elite i20 and the new Verna, it is already looking strong and now we hear that the company is eyeing the MPV segment.

The company will be targeting the SUV segment this year and both the i20 Cross and the ix25 compact SUV, will make their way to India this year. The i20 Cross as soon as next month and the compact SUV by the second half of this year but entering the MPV segment is a whole new ball game.

The people at Hyundai said that they have been keeping an eye on the MPV segment in India and are keen to enter it considering there are cars from rivals like Maruti Suzuki and Honda already in this segment. The Korean car manufacturer has started Research and Development for an MPV and we will soon hear more about the plans that they have in store.

But Hyundai is no stranger to the MPV as the company had showcased the Hexa Space HND-7concept at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo and we got a glimpse of how it could possibly look. The HND-7 concept benifited from the Fluidic Sculpture design and now that the 2.0 version of the design language has already been introduced, we will see it getting some more lines and wrinkles than before. The concept came with 8 seats but we'll be realistic and say there will be seven in this one.

The project is still at a nascent stage but the wheels are in motion and we could see the MPV from Hyundai in the next couple of years.
