How to reduce night blindness while driving

As humans age, our vision tends to get weaker. Therefore, if you are older than 50 you may be facing problem in driving at night. Now, night blindness is a type of condition affecting the eye, but facing difficulty while driving at night is not always due to night blindness. Here are some things you can do to make driving easier at night.

Clean your mirror and windows before driving:
This is one of the most basic things that can be done if you are facing issue while driving at night, dirty windshield or mirrors may not be noticeable during the day but at night they can cause glare which indeed makes hard for us to see.
Regularly check your headlights:
It may not be noticeable but when you keep driving gradually dirt and dust build up on the headlights of your vehicle and even get to the bulb. Due to this the headlights get a bit dim.
To avoid this, ask your mechanic to clean the interiors of the headlights and even change the bulb if needed, also ask your mechanic to polish the interiors and exterior of your vehicle's headlights.
Dim your dashboard's lights:
Nowadays there are all sorts of lights in our vehicles dashboards that sometimes may be distracting and make it difficult to focus on the road. Dim your entire interior lights and if you are using some sort of GPS navigation, try turning on the night mode if available.
Night setting on rear view mirror:
Manufacturers have started offering night setting in most of the vehicles, this helps to reduce the direct brightness and glare of the headlights of the cars behind you. You can figure out the rear-view mirror's setting by checking your cars instruction manual.

Avoid looking at oncoming vehicle's headlights:
When you are driving beside the lane of approaching traffic it's best to keep your sight either straight or on the side of the left-lane marking as directly looking at the oncoming lights make it difficult for you to see and can temporarily affect your visibility at night.

Remove Yellow-Tinted glass:
These tints are marketed as specialized glasses that helps in night vision by reducing glare and improving contrast but there is very less evidence of this being true. These tints reduce the amount of light entering and make it even harder to see instead of making it easier.
Reduce your speed:
If you still face difficulty in seeing at night, reduce your vehicles speed. Reducing speed is the last option and if you are opting for this it's time you see an eye expert. If you are not even facing such difficulty in driving at night keep examining your eyes annually.
