How To Keep Your Aging Bike In Perfect Condition?
Highlights
Every machine needs maintenance, especially the ones that are ageing. This is also true for bikes and cars that need maintenance every few weeks. If you have a bike that is getting older and you don't want it to lose its charm, you need to give it the proper care. Here are the factors you should focus on to keep your bike going on for long:
Keep an eye on the tyres
Make sure your tyres are in top condition, and maintain the air pressure suggested by your manufacturer. This will give you smoother rides. Also make sure the wheel balance and alignment are proper.
Maintain engine oil levels
Engine oil needs to be maintained at a certain level to keep your bike running like the wind. Due to carbon deposits the oil also tends to get thick and dirty and might need to be replaced. Using clean engine oil at proper levels will keep your bike running longer.
Clean the air filter
Regularly clean your bike's air filter and replace them as recommended. If you live in a dusty area you might have to do this often.
Adjust your clutch
The clutch shouldn't be too hard or too loose. It should have the right amount of free play, as a tight clutch could slip without you noticing.
Get your engine serviced regularly
If the heart of your bike is running smoothly, you've already won over 90% of the battle. Get your bike serviced regularly. If you're manually servicing your bike, note that the carburettor needs cleaning every 1500 km and your spark plug every 750 km for a two-stroke bike and 1500 km for a four-stroke bike.
Lubricate the transmission system
The bike's chain needs to be cleaned and lubricated for smooth functioning. Use paraffin to wash the chain and clean out the dust with a toothbrush or a cloth. Do not use water to clean the chains as it can cause them to rust.
Clean the surface
It is also essential to keep the surface of your bike spic and span to maintain its lustre. To protect the insides of your bike during cleaning, carefully cover the ignition button, HT coil and the silencer. Also try to park your bike in shade more often as frequent exposure to sunlight can damage the paint coating.
Maintain the battery
Your bike's battery needs to be in top condition or needs to be replaced for maximum efficiency. Top up the bike's battery with distilled water if required. Use the bike regularly to keep the battery charged and performing well.
Use these tips to keep your aging bike in top condition. If maintained properly, vehicles can last a lifetime!
