How to Do Fuel Pump Replacement at Your Home?

- Fuel pump replacement is much cheaper when done at home.
- With the help of simple tools, a fuel pump can be easily replaced.
- Main function of a fuel pump is to draw fuel and pump it to the engine.
Is your car's fuel pump having issues? Or is it producing the symptoms of failure? In any case, a fuel pump replacement is a trip to the mechanic with an expensive fix. But did you know that you can easily replace a fuel pump at home too, with the help of only a few mechanical tools and the right parts? The key to changing a fuel pump lies in patience, attention to detail, and, of course, the availability of the right tools.

A Simple And Easy Guide For Fuel Pump Replacement:
Here is a simple step-by-step guide for fuel pump replacement:

Extracting the Old Fuel Pump:
Step 1: First, disconnect the negative battery cable from the car. Then, disconnect the fuel tank hose, fuel pump, and vapor return hose. Make sure to plug the hose to keep the fuel from flowing downwards.
Step 2: Now, examine the fuel hose. Replace it if damaged.
Step 3: After following the first two steps, you need to disconnect the outlet line connected to the carburetor.
Step 4: Now, with the help of a wrench, remove the attaching bolts and remove the old fuel pump. Clean the mounting surface of the engine properly before installing a new fuel pump.
Installation Of A Brand New Fuel Pump:
Step 1: Once the old fuel pump is extracted, it's time to prepare a new one in its place. To start, apply gasket sealer on the new gasket and put the attaching bolts through the brand new pump. Then, quickly slip the gasket over these bolts.
Step 2: Now, install the fuel pump on the engine.
Step 3: Carefully attach the fuel outline to the carburetor.
Step 4: Following step three from the gas tank, attach the fuel inlet hose and vapor return hose.
Step 5: After tightening the clamps, reconnect the battery cable.
Step 6: Switch on your car, and inspect it for leaks. If there are no leaks and the car is working properly, then you've successfully replaced the fuel pump, and your vehicle is ready to hit the road.
What Parts Form a Basic Fuel Unit?

A fuel unit includes four parts. They are named below:
-
Fuel Tank: It is a vehicle's fuel reservoir.
-
Fuel Filter: Its main function is to separate impurities and ensure optimal engine performance.
-
Fuel Pump: As the name suggests, its job is to draw fuel and push it into the engine of the vehicle.
-
Fuel Carburetor/Injector: An injector delivers the required amount of fuel to the engine and closes and opens at fixed intervals of time. While the carburetor is nothing but the injector's predecessor.
