A duplicate RC is a copy of the original RC book, which is issued in the form of a book or smart card. When the original RC is lost or misplaced, a duplicate RC can be requested online or offline with a copy of the FIR lodged at the police station in the area where the RC is lost.

How To Apply For A Duplicate RC?

ONLINE
In today's scenario, people are more comfortable performing their jobs and other activities online. To walk hand in hand with digital India, the TO has brought all its services online through the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways website called Parivahan Sewa. Steps to follow to apply for a duplicate RC:

Visit the Parivahan Sewa portal and click on the "information services" tab.

Scroll down to "about registration" and choose "duplicate RC" from the drop-down menu.

Read all the information carefully and also make a list of all the documents required.

Download form no. 26 and fill it out carefully.

Submit the form with the mandatory documents.

Make the application fee payment and print the receipt.

Show the receipt to the RTO and the RC will be delivered to the registered address.

OFFLINE
Even though online services are provided by the RTO, some people choose traditional ways. To apply for a duplicate RC offline, visit the RTO office where the original RC was issued and complete the following steps:

File an FIR at the nearest police station for the lost RC. In the complaint, mention necessary vehicle details such as owner details, chassis number, engine number, and vehicle model.

Once the FIR is filed, submit a few copies to the registered RTO.

Carefully Fill in the duplicate RC application form along with Form 26 and submit the same.

If the vehicle was purchased on loan, get a NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the financier.

After all the forms and documents are submitted, pay the application fees and keep the receipt.
