Highlights

  • The new Africa Twin variant will be heavier and taller
  • It will be offered in manual and DCT variants
  • It might be showcased at the upcoming EICMA Motorcycle Show

Ever since Honda launched the Africa Twin, it found huge success. Even in India, the first batch of Africa Twin bikes has been sold out. Globally, the Africa Twin was launched in early 2016 and this means that by 2018, it will be time for Honda to give the bike an update of sorts. Some reports on the internet say that Honda is working on a bigger, better version of the Africa Twin, which will be oriented towards long distance touring. The details are sketchy but apparently, the new Africa Twin will be almost 13 kg heavier than the current bike, which might be due to increase in components, engine weight and so on. Honda might also offer a larger fuel tank so as to increase the range of the bike.

The height of the bike too will go up from current 1,475 mm to 1,570 mm. There will be new and a larger windscreen as well. Honda might also offer luggage panniers as standard fitment, which could be another cause for the increase in weight. Of course, that can be done currently also as Honda offers a variety of accessories and fitments for the current Africa Twin model.

From what we hear, Honda just might showcase the bigger Africa Twin at the upcoming EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan next month. Whether the engine specifications change or remain the same is yet to be seen. The new bike will be offered with a manual transmission and the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) as well. The DCT variant of course, will be heavier than the manual variant.
