Highlights

Honda cars in India are set to become expensive as the carmaker announced its plan to hike prices of its cars by up to Rs 16,000. To come in effect from January, 2016, the hike will allow Honda to offset impact of rising input costs. Jnaneswar Sen, Vice-President (Marketing and Sales), HCIL, told PTI, "We will hike prices in the range of Rs. 10,000 - Rs. 16,000 from January, depending on the model. The price increase has been necessitated on account of increase in input costs."

While Honda is yet to reveal the details of the hike, one must note the Japanese carmaker's current line-up in India comprises Brio, Amaze, Jazz, City, Mobilio, and CR-V. As far as Honda's upcoming cars in India are concerned, we expect the Honda BR-V compact SUV, Honda Accord, and Honda Civic to be launched some time next year.

Several car manufacturers in the industry have already announced a hike for their respective range of cars, including Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Hyundai, Renault, Nissan, and Skoda among others. The reason being cited is the same - to offset the increasing input costs.

However, the price hikes are not news; it is customary for carmakers to increase prices of their cars around this time of the year to allow them to clear the inventories left after the festive season.
