Honda Recalls Over 1.9 Lakh Vehicles in India

Honda Cars India, today announced a major recall in India to replace the passenger side airbag inflators, sourced from Takata Corp. The recall, which is a part of Honda's globally on-going precautionary recall campaign, concerning Takata front airbag inflators, will affect over 1.9 lakh vehicles of previous generation of Accord, CR-V, Civic, City and Jazz.
The company has released an official statement confirming that the replacement of airbag inflators will be carried out free of cost at Honda dealerships across India in a phased manner. The statement says that all the models of the aforementioned vehicles were manufactured between 2003 and 2011. It also points out that the recall will take place over the period of next few months catering to select models at a time.
For the first phase of the campaign, which begins immediately, the Japanese carmaker will be recalling the CR-V SUVs and the Civic sedans, both accounting for 1,514 and 13,605 units respectively. The affected CR-Vs were manufactured from 2009 to 2011. On the other hand 2 vehicles of the Civic sedans under recall were manufactured in 2007, while the remaining 13,603 units were produced between 2009 and 2011. The replacement of inflators for other affected models would begin from September 2016, and the company will communicate with customers directly.
Among the remaining vehicles, Honda's premium sedan Accord accounts for 22,483 units, all of which were manufactured between 2003 and 2011. As for the carmaker's top seller Honda city, the affected models were manufactured from 2008 to 2011 and the model with the highest number of vehicles under recall, which is 1,37,270 units. The recall also includes the company's premium hatchback Jazz that was produced between 2009 and 2011, of which Honda will be recalling 15,706 units.
Honda is also giving customers an option to check whether their cars are covered under this campaign online. The company has created a special microsite for this recall campaign within their official website where Honda car owners can go and check if their car is eligible for the recall or not using their 17 character alpha-numeric Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
