Honda Cars India has recalled 15,623 units of non-ABS variants of Brio and 15,603 units of non-ABS variants of petrol Amaze to check them for a possible defect in the brake system. These cars were manufactured from 28th February 2013 to 16 January 2014.

The company said in a statement that "There is a possibility that in some of these cars there is a mis-assembly of Proportioning Valve." However, no such complaint has been reported yet. The company will replace the Proportioning Valve after inspection, if required. The inspection and replacement will be done free of cost at all Honda dealerships across India, and owners will be contacted by the company.

Proportioning valve regulates the brake pressure at the rear, and what must have happened here is that instead of regulating pressure, equal pressure is going through, and that in some cases might result in rear wheel locking up.

"Proportioning Valve is the part of Brake system which adjusts brake distribution pressure to the wheels. Proportioning valve is not a part of braking system for ABS variants & therefore the ABS variants of Brio & Petrol Amaze and all variants of Diesel Amaze do not require any inspection.", HCIL said in a statement.

The company has created a special microsite on its official website (www.hondacarindia.com) that allows customers to check whether their car wil be covered under this check-up campaign by submitting their 17 character alpha-numeric Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
